It all started off as what I thought was a dream, a cheap pizza place walking distance from my house. Every other day I would walk by on my way to coffee and peer in the window like a kid looking into the toy store, wondering what goodies were in store for me? Slices? My hometown favorite of deep dish? Maybe some authentic Neopolitan with the buffalo mozzarella? Honestly if the cheese had any salt to it and the tomato sauce had romas in it, I would probably just open a line of credit when I first walked in.
Finally the day had come and I found out it was a chain from another state with a novelty theme of newspaper. They wore get ups like a 20’s boy who would hawk papers on the corner for a nickle. I wanted to leave sad as I am stubborn with new pizza and won’t give anything a chance that looks like the dough came prerolled. However realizing I would look like a jackass telling my coworkers to reroute because I’m being a baby bitch made me accept what I believed to be an inferior pizza.
Maybe the pizza gods that day decided to slap me upside the head and bestow with another option in my pizza life that day, maybe I didn’t know that I wanted something setup like this. Whatever the reason, when my pizza had came out the oven I realized that life was gonna be ok. Basically you have your choice of after toppings like balsamic, pesto, etc just like you have a topping bar to choose from before it goes in the oven. Think of it like a Subway you actually want to eat versus the one at the highway truck stop that is the only open food establishment from here til Spokane. The toppings were super fresh and of actual quality. The look in the employees’ eyes when you refused to go with the cheesy names and just order what you want made the experience even better. Add in the beer selection and life will not only be ok, it may even prevail to the level of good.
So I will give away a few pretenses here so you can adjust your opinion off of my input. I’m a vegetarian, so I didn’t have any of the meats. This might throw off my judgement a bit, I apologize for that. You can get tasty veggie options without me getting on a soapbox to tell you about. While I have said before I am from Chicago, I do love all pizza, not equally, but it’s all good. Just because I have a pizza casserole one day and I can then have a slice the size of your head the next day. It’s all love. Ok end of the pretense.
I got myself a Chronicle (Extra virgin olive oil, mozzarella, imported artichoke hearts, grape tomato, red onion, crimini mushroom, chevre, roasted red bell peppers, finished with fresh basil and basil pesto). Artichoke and chevre is a bit of an overkill and maybe that’s why I loved it so much. The flavors of everything were heavy for such a thin pizza. The crust was cracker crispy that flakes apart. If you don’t like flaky crusts I can’t help you out there. I don’t think a therapist can help you either. Sauce was sweet (there were a bunch of sweet veggies) but not so sweet that you couldn’t taste the spices. Also if you have no food self control, the pizza is single serving. I recommend bringing a friend instead of shoving all the slices down your throat like I did.
Since this is my first food review on here, I’m going to set a preface of not giving anything a formal rating. I’m not here to tear local businesses apart for pushing out subpar products and rally behind a 253 painting or hashtag to get business. I’m here to simply tell you about something good or great I had and recommend that maybe you try it out versus going to the same place you’ve been frequenting weekly since 2006.
